Bringing Public Art to Montrose

A Public Sculpture Display is Being Created
Right Here in Montrose!

Modeled closely on the very popular “Art on the Corner” program now in its twenty-first year in Grand Junction, this revolving sculpture loan program will be an exciting opportunity for all of us to experience quality works of art in our own community.

Each year, PAX will send out a Call for Entries to established sculptors from the Western Slope and beyond. From the submissions we receive, we will select five or more pieces to display in public locations around Montrose.

During the year, a series of art-related events will be planned, and the public will be encouraged to vote for their favorite work to receive the “People's Choice Award . ” At the end of the year, the pieces will be returned to their owners, and a new set will be selected for the next display year. Each year, one piece will be purchased to add to the City of Montrose's permanent collection.

PAX's goal is to create new chances for people to come together as a community and have new opportunities to enjoy direct engagement with quality works of art.

Partnership

The project is a cooperative venture of the PAX Steering Committee, the Montrose Chamber of Commerce, the City of Montrose, and the local public. We have joined together because we all recognize that creating an interesting and attractive public environment is crucial to a thriving and prosperous community.

The Chamber is providing accounting services and will serve as a contact point for getting information about PAX to the public. The City has agreed to provide insurance for displayed artworks and maintenance at installation sites. Everything else will be done by the PAX Steering Committee and YOU, the public.

Additional support will be needed from Montrose businesses and the public. Volunteers will be needed to lend a hand for various phases, and business sponsors will join with individual donors to finance expenses and for purchase of the piece selected annually to add to the City's collection. brochures with information about the display will be placed at various locations, and available for Chamber member businesses to hand out.

How You Can Help

We have a vision.
We have a plan.
We have enthusiasm and excitement.
But we need your support.

Even though the works are loaned by the artists, we still have expenses, and plenty of work to do. We will have mailings to send, publicity to produce, brochures to distribute, plaques and pedestals to create and install, “meet the art, meet the artists” events to organize and implement, and one artwork per year to purchase for our community.

Please let us know how you'd like to help.
