"Montrose Chamber Means Business"

The mission of the Montrose Chamber of Commerce is to foster
positive economic growth for the greater Montrose area.

The Chamber of Commerce endeavors to be knowledgeable of the issues which are important to the Montrose area. The Chamber staff is the proactive component responding to numerous inquiries regarding the area. The Program of Work contained herein establishes an ongoing committee structure which sets goals and objectives for the year. We encourage Chamber members to contact Chairpersons and join in the Chamber's effort to maintain our active and vibrant Montrose community.

Objective:  Continue to promote Montrose regional agriculture and support efforts to work toward seeing that agriculture is a viable business opportunity.

Goals:

  1. Host Agriculture Appreciation.

  2. Participate in the yearly County Fair as a buyer and actively promote business participation.

  3. Host the Kiddie Tractor Pull during the County Fair.

  4. Bring information to the community about agriculture issues and keep the business community up to date on issues that will effect Montrose as a whole

  5. Agriculture Promotion: newsletter (2 articles), local retail promotion, education/interests, encourage new members/sponsors participation.

  6. Set up the agriculture committee with participation from other organization.

Objective:  Organize and promote business events, awards and programs that support the Chamber.

Goals:

  1. Increase public attendance of the Uncompahgre Valley Business Expo.

  2. Assist with the Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award.

  3. Establish a periodic meeting that provides educational opportunities for our members.

  4. Monitor our insurance program through Rocky Mountain Health Plans and advertise in newsletter.

Objective:  The Education Committee is intent on enlisting business and civic community involvement to support educational and business excellence in the Montrose area.

Goals:

  1. Co-Sponsor, in conjunction with the Colorado Workforce Center, a job fair that will increase business and educational awareness as well as exchange the environment needs of each entity.

  2. Provide adequate recognition of teachers and business partners that participate in exchange.

  3. Review and recommend the Ken Gale Sholarship applicants.

  4. Increase communications to promote Career Options Seminar and new career/placement services via Chamber newsletter.

  5. Increase awareness of Career Options Seminars and career/placement services by inviting all local businesses to participate in student presentations.

  6. Explore Creating membership application process to include information in regards to being part of a Business/School resource exchange guide.

Governmental Affairs / Transportation Committee

Objective:  Ensure that relationships between local governmental jurisdictions and the Chamber is open and interactive. Participate in local and regional transportation issues and assist where necessary to ensure needs are addressed.

Goals:

  1. Monitor, participate and stay informed on the development of community wide transportation initiatives.

  2. Monitor, participate and stay informed on Region 10 transportation improvements. In particular, initiatives that address traffic controls to improve pedestrian safety on the highways going through Montrose.

  3. Participate in the annual State Legislative Trip to Denver.

  4. Invite City, County and State officials and representatives to the Board to educate members on relevant community issues.

  5. Continue to foster positive relations and collaborative activities between VCB, Chamber, MAMA and others.

  6. Work with the City of Montrose in considering the potential opportunity of exchanging the San Juan Bypass for the Main Street right-of-way.

Membership Services Committee

Objective:  The Member Services Committee serves and recognizes existing members and works to increase membership in the Chamber each year.

Goals:

  1. Member Appreciation/Recognition - Through the Special Events Committee, the committee will demonstrate the Chambers appreciation to all members by: hosting an annual Chamber Appreciation Picnic for all existing members, delivering recognition gifts to existing members' locations or a recognition letter to those with PO boxes or are individual members, recognizing a member each month in the monthly newsletter with a short article, inviting a member each month to attend the 2nd board meeting of the month and honoring them with a certificate.

  2. Member Retention - will seek and utilize member feedback through bi-annual survey.

  3. Membership Recruitment - to increase Chamber membership for 2007 through: Annual Membership Drive-delivering chamber information packets to non-members while delivering recognition gifts to existing members. Creating Membership Services position for the Chamber of Commerce. Inviting 5 non-members each month to the 2nd monthly board meeting. Host quarterly non-member informational event.

  1. Prepare and distribute Public Service Announcements to local and regional media.

  2. Represent the Chamber to organizations and public entities as a speaker.

  3. Prepare informational and educational columns for print pieces.

  4. Spotlight members in the media

Objective: To be the Chamber liaison with other organizations and entities; i.e. Montrose VCB, MAMA, Lodging Association, Montrose Pavilion, Restaurants, Airport, Historic Montrose Downtown, Mesa State College, Montrose Memorial Hospital, Special Districts, Manufacturers, Black Canyon National Park, and many others, in promoting Montrose as a destination for special events and tourism.

Goals:

  1. Be supportive of the above mentioned groups and their events by hosting hospitality booths, preparing packets, manpower, advertising chamber banner "Montrose Chamber Means Business"

  2. Assist in securing the Colorado Wildlife Academy return in 2008.

  3. Assist with bicycle tours.

  4. Continually research and work to bring new events to Montrose.

  5. Advertise.

  6. Chamber Member of the Month Award.

  7. 4th of July Parade.

  8. E-mail message to members about events and large groups.

Objective: The Cultural Development Committee will heighten cultural offerings partnering with Montrose Public Art Experience (PAX).

Goals:

  1. Creating an attractive and interesting public environment for our thriving business community

  2. Provide a new focal point for promoting Montrose's community identity and image

  3. Increase opportunities to draw residents and visitors to experience and appreciate Montrose's unique civic features

  4. Expand people's education and appreciation for our specific and universal world of culture
